Kids in Common
Kids in Common (KIC) is a collaborative that serves a network of individuals and organizations interested and involved in early childhood issues and education in Amador County. KIC events include presentations from experts in the field of linking preschool activities to kindergarten standards and improved communication, participation in task forces that focus on special projects such as the Mental Health Services Act, and the design of tools to be utilized countywide. First 5 Amador currently hosts two Kids in Common events per year.
One of the greatest accomplishments to come out of this group (made up of Kindergarten Teachers, Elementary School Principals, Head Start Educators, Pre-kindergarten Educators, Private Child Care Providers, Child Care Center Directors and Educators, the Amador School
District Curriculum Director, the Local Child Care Planning Council Coordinator, The Resource Connection and First 5 Amador Staff) is the
"Bridge to Kindergarten" School Readiness Activities Calendar.
The Calendar provides "School Readiness Skills Lists" along with numerous examples
of fun, easy activities that parents or providers can do to help children 0-5 attain the
desired school readiness skills prior to Kindergarten entry.
Free copies of the "Bridge to Kindergarten" Calendar are available to all families
and providers in Amador County that would like to use them.
They have been quoted as "the most ingenious school readiness tool seen in years"!
